About
The Department of Agada Tantra and Vidhi Vaidyaka at Agastya Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital, Koppal, is dedicated to the study of toxicology, forensic medicine, and medical jurisprudence within the Ayurvedic framework. The department uniquely integrates classical knowledge of Visha Chikitsa (toxicology) with contemporary concepts of forensic science and legal medicine, preparing students to address both medical emergencies and medico-legal responsibilities with competence and confidence.
The academic approach emphasizes early recognition, timely intervention, and legal awareness. Students are trained to understand various sources of poisoning including plant, animal, mineral, and artificial toxins, along with their clinical manifestations and Ayurvedic management protocols. The curriculum also incorporates modern toxicological principles, emergency care practices, and first-aid management for poisoning and envenomation cases.
In the domain of Vidhi Vaidyaka, the department provides comprehensive exposure to medico-legal aspects such as injury assessment, death investigation, documentation, certification, and ethical medical practice. Through case-based discussions, hospital exposure, and collaboration with medico-legal authorities, students gain practical insight into handling legal responsibilities in clinical practice.
The department places special emphasis on rural and community relevance, equipping students to manage common toxicological emergencies such as snakebite, insect stings, and accidental poisoning, which are prevalent in the Koppal region and surrounding areas.
